New year, new me - they say. During this period, planning is usually in full swing and of course you have probably made resolutions that you hope will make your life better. Why would you leave developing more sustainable, environmentally friendly habits off your list? We show you some of them!
1. My own shopping bag
Let's start with a simple thing that anyone can do. If you bring your own reusable bag every time you go shopping, you will have already done a lot to prevent further plastic pollution in the oceans and the deaths of thousands of living creatures, turtles, fish, dolphins, whales and birds.
Plastic bags are the second most common type of waste after cigarette butts, with around 4 billion bags blown away by the wind each year, eventually polluting forests, rivers, lakes, beaches and oceans.
A significant portion of plastic bags are made from petroleum-based polyethylene , and their production requires 12 million barrels of oil per year - this non-renewable resource produces more greenhouse gases and increases our dependence on oil.
If you buy pocket-sized textile bags, you can easily carry them with you. Help us eliminate plastic bags from the Earth, not animals!
2. Cook for yourself and plan your meals!
This resolution may be a little harder to stick to, but your health, your wallet, and the environment will thank you for it! According to some estimates, we waste about 40% of all food worldwide. Most of the food we throw away ends up in the simple, home kitchen trash or compost bin. To prevent waste, it's worth planning your weekly menu. Cookbooks that specialize in preparing simple, quick meals can help you with this. Start the process one or two days a week, and you'll see, you'll enjoy it!
3. Avoid fast fashion stores!
Incredibly cheap clothes from big chain stores - too good to be true, right? You probably wouldn't have thought that the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world, after the oil industry.
The cheap fashion industry also supports the petroleum-based, highly toxic synthetic fabric and dye industry. Tons of fossil fuels are used in growing, manufacturing, and transporting them. Not to mention the inhumane, toxic conditions that garment workers are forced to work in.
This year, think more carefully about what clothes you need. Only buy what you really need! When buying clothes, try to choose timeless styles. Those that won't go out of style in a few months and that are made of higher quality, more durable materials. Whenever possible, give preference to domestically produced clothes!
Drop off your tired clothes at Ruhaforgó stores or organize your own wardrobe sale!
4. Use chemical-free cosmetics and cleaning products!
Did you know that everything you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream? That's why your cosmetics should be so pure that you could eat them if you wanted to. And your cleaning products should be free of toxins and chemicals that pose a risk to your health!
Just as you read food labels to make sure you're not eating questionable or toxic ingredients, you should also carefully examine the labels of cosmetics, personal care products, and cleaning products!
Use fewer chemicals this year and check your products! You can also start experimenting by making your own things, like deodorant and laundry detergent .
When it comes to cleaning products, we can help you with that too! You can now get our CYCLE eco-friendly starter pack in a buy one, get two deal for HUF 8,490 instead of HUF 16,980. 5. Bring a water bottle with you!
