7 ideas to reduce water consumption during quarantine

It can be easy to overuse water during extended periods of stay at home, but here are 7 tips to reduce the amount of water you use. This will not only help the environment, but also your wallet.

Nowadays, forced to stay at home, it's easy to consume much more water than we used to. We wash our hands much more often, for longer periods of time, often with running water; we cook at home, clean more often, have time to bathe the dog, do some gardening, and when the weather gets nicer, we even fill up the pool for the kids. This not only leaves a mark on our water bill, but also on the Earth's water resources in the long term. But we think we can strive for sustainability even during quarantine!

  1. Look for leaks! A dripping tap can waste up to 15 liters of water in a day, and a quietly leaking toilet can waste hundreds of liters! A major toilet leak is of course noticeable, but you can also spot a small leak by dropping some food coloring into the tank: if the bowl turns colored even without flushing, then you are wasting water.
  2. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth! It's an incredibly simple trick, but not everyone uses it: while the toothbrush is in your mouth and brushing your teeth, there's no need to run the water. Use the running water to rinse and wash your toothbrush, as well as to rinse your mouth. This saves a lot of water!
  3. Don't use the dishwasher or washing machine half-full! Only turn on these machines when they are fully loaded. This way, you can save not only on water but also on electricity consumption!
  4. Take shorter showers! Depending on the length of your shower, you can use between 6 and 45 liters of water, not to mention extremely long showers. Choosing the right shower head can also save you a lot of money: a water-saving shower head mixes air with the water, increasing the pressure and reducing water consumption. Turn off the water while soaping up, and only turn it back on when you're done rinsing.
  5. Fill a glass or bottle with water and put it in the fridge! That way, when you get thirsty, you don't have to run the tap for a long time to cool it down. Just reach into the fridge and there's pleasantly cold, refreshing water.
  6. Water the garden during the cooler part of the day. This way, less water evaporates from the hot soil and the strong sun. People have long believed that Hungary has abundant fresh water , but unfortunately this is not so clear.
  7. Don't wash dishes under running water! Use a larger container that you can fill with water and wash the dishes in, then rinse them under running water. This way, you can wash dishes using a fraction of the usual amount of water.

When we save water, we not only save our wallets, but also our environment. When cleaning, CYCLE products ensure that we take double care of our water resources: our natural cleaning products are made from biomass, which means that we don't need a single drop of clean drinking water to produce them. This way, we can clean our homes naturally, while preserving our water resources and the environment! After all, we wouldn't want the ocean cleaner to work unnecessarily. :)
