We had an exciting experience recently, as we were invited to Greendex's radio show "The Day After Tomorrow"!
The episode covered traditional and eco-friendly cleaning products and other alternatives. It also discussed the health effects of chemicals and the patented technology behind CYCLE.
The CYCLE team was represented by our development manager, Emil Kovács.
The show starts with an exciting topic: they dispel some common misconceptions about traditional cleaning products. Many people choose certain cleaning products “blindly”, solely out of conviction or brand loyalty, without reading what is written on the label. This often leads to the accumulation of substances harmful to health in our households, such as chlorine or ammonia.
While companies are required to list harmful substances on their products, many people ignore them. We would never guess how important this information can be in terms of their impact on our health and the environment.
There was also talk about the health risks that traditional cleaning agents could cause . During long-term use, in a closed environment, without protective equipment – rubber gloves, masks – and without moderation, they can cause serious problems, mainly in two areas. One of the main symptoms can appear in the form of skin irritation , and their inhalation can also result in a significant deterioration in lung capacity . Symptoms of chemical allergies can often also appear , and they can also affect the endocrine system and fertility, and last but not least, the long-term use of certain ingredients can also have a carcinogenic effect.
Moreover, these products often contain unnecessary added ingredients that do not affect the cleanliness, such as artificial fragrances or added dyes. Without these, the cleaning product would be just as effective as with them, but manufacturers still use them because they help the product stand out on store shelves. So we often stick to these scents and colors rather than the result!
What are healthy cleaning agent alternatives?
As the program revealed, fortunately, we can now choose from more and more environmentally friendly products that are not only effective, but also gentler on our health and the environment.
The second half of the episode introduced CYCLE and the patented, circular technology behind it! CYCLE is the result of a unique experiment.
Emil explained in detail that CYCLE's parent company is an engineering firm that deals with the technology and construction of wastewater treatment plants. One of the technologies they have developed aims to recycle the sewage sludge generated by wastewater treatment plants and extract valuable components from it.
Test its effectiveness!
Sewage sludge is usually treated as waste, but we see it as a valuable resource that can be recovered and recycled as an important step towards a sustainable future. As part of this process, the main ingredient in our cleaning products, an acetic acid mixture, is extracted from sewage sludge .
We treat sewage sludge through fermentation, where bacteria break down the sewage sludge to produce acetic acid water, which we recover and use in our cleaning products. This way , we don't have to use a single drop of fresh water, which also helps us manage our water resources.
Emil also details the circular design and tells the personal mission of the CYCLE founder.
At the end of the podcast, we also received information about how vinegar and citric acid can be used in our homes and what benefits we can enjoy. These ingredients not only have effective limescale-removing properties, but they are also safer and less harmful to the environment. However , it doesn't matter how they are produced!
